Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. It borders Russia to the north-east, Belarus to the north, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the south-west, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south. The historic city of Kiev (Kyiv) is the country’s capital.

In Ukraine, hundreds of children in orphanages are waiting for loving and caring parents. Many have never experienced the warmth and joy that comes from a forever family because they were abandoned after birth and others were neglected or abused by their biological parents. Mostly children are placed to orphanages due to parental neglect or physical abuse. They are regular children who unfortunately had to be removed from their families; the only difference is that these children have experienced much stress and difficulties in their lives. By adopting a child, you not only help a child grow up in a loving and caring environment, you form a bright and positive future. Adoption is a blessing for the child’s life and yours as well.

Every child has a right to have a loving and caring family. And we should always strive to improve the current situation and give homes to children. We all know that children are the flowers of life. Ukrainian orphan children are very special, vulnerable, they already had much experience despite the fact that they are kids. They need love, care, attention and the most important - they need a family!

Reforms in the Ukrainian national legislation are carried out observing one of the basic principles of the UN Convention on the Children Rights – to ensure the best interests of a child.

Adoption in Ukraine is facilitated under the State Department for Adoptions and Protection of Rights of the Child (SDAPRC). Ukraine is not party to the Hague convention. Ukraine is a wonderful country to consider adoption from! There are many children available, you are able to meet your child before making a decision to adopt, and only one trip to Ukraine is required.

Over 10 000 children – are available for adoption both by Ukrainian and foreign citizens.

International adoption costs Ukraine

costFirst off, be aware that a bill was introduced in the Ukrainian legislature, which depending on the final wording -- could halt American adoptions from that country. Action on the bill has been postponed repeatedly, however, most recently on January 12, 2011.
In short, you may or may not wind up being able to adopt from Ukraine, depending on whether and when the bill passes. Before sending money to ANY agency or facilitator, American or Ukrainian, be sure to contact the U.S. State Department for the latest updates on the status of the bill, so that you know the level of risk in starting an adoption at this time.
